Soft Tissue Surgery for Dogs and Cats

Soft Tissue Surgery at BVRS

Surgery at BVRS covers many aspects of soft tissue surgical needs, including:

  • Airway surgery for laryngeal dysfunction and brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS)
  • Liver and gall bladder surgery for biopsies, cancer removal and gall bladder mucocele
  • Intestinal surgery for biopsy, foreign body removal, cancer resection and megacolon surgery
  • Urinary bladder and ectopic ureter surgery, including both open and laser surgery options
  • Thoracic surgery, including lung lobectomy, lung and mediastinal cancer removal and thoracic duct ligation
  • Heart surgery, including pericardiectomy and PDA procedures
  • Oncological surgery, including primary tumour management, sentinel lymph node mapping and node removal where indicated, as well as wound reconstruction

Airway and BOAS Surgery

Some dogs, particularly brachycephalic breeds, may experience airway obstruction related to BOAS. Airway surgery may be recommended for selected patients to support breathing comfort and quality of life.

Our team provides careful assessment and clear communication so owners understand the recommended approach, the procedure and the recovery process.

Rhinoscopy and Nasal Support

Rhinoscopy may be used in selected cases to investigate nasal concerns and support diagnosis or treatment planning. Where further care is recommended, BVRS works with the referring vet and owner to outline the next steps.

Laser Surgery and Oncological Surgery

Laser surgery may be used in selected soft tissue procedures where appropriate. BVRS may also support oncological surgery for pets requiring surgical care related to masses or cancer, depending on the case and referral details.

Our goal is to provide thoughtful surgical planning with communication that supports both the pet owner and the referring veterinary team.

Ovary-Sparing Spey and Advanced Soft Tissue Procedures

BVRS may also provide ovary-sparing spey and other advanced soft tissue procedures for suitable patients. Every recommendation is made with the patient’s individual needs in mind.
Soft tissue surgery may also overlap with minimally invasive surgery when laparoscopic techniques are appropriate.

Wound Management

At BVRS, we can manage large wounds and provide surgical wound reconstruction where appropriate. We have negative pressure wound management (vacuum-assisted closure, or wound VAC) using KCI and PICO systems available for large wounds and skin graft support.

A Connected Referral Process

As an independent referral practice, BVRS offers specialist surgical care with a personal, team-based approach. We aim to keep pet owners informed and referring vets updated throughout the patient’s care.

Our focus is on professional, reliable and compassionate support before, during and after surgery.
