Post-Operative Support and Aftercare
Post-operative support at Brindabella Veterinary Referral Service helps dogs and cats recover after specialist surgery, imaging, or rehabilitation care. Our Canberra team provides clear guidance so pet owners feel informed and supported at home.
Supporting Recovery After Specialist Care
Recovery is an important part of your pet’s treatment journey. After surgery or another specialist procedure, BVRS will provide aftercare guidance tailored to your pet’s individual needs.
Our goal is to help you understand what to expect, how to support your pet at home and when to contact our team with questions.
What Aftercare May Include
Your pet’s aftercare plan will depend on their procedure, condition and recovery needs. Guidance may include information about:
- Rest and activity restriction
- Medication instructions
- Wound or incision care
- Feeding and comfort support
- Recheck appointments
- Rehabilitation or physical therapy recommendations
- Signs to monitor during recovery
Our team will explain the relevant instructions before your pet goes home.
Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Support
Some pets may benefit from physical therapy or rehabilitation after surgery, particularly following orthopaedic procedures or treatment for musculoskeletal conditions.
BVRS offers rehabilitation support that may include post-operative therapy, laser therapy, TENS therapy, manual therapy, cryotherapy and tailored mobility support.
Communication With Your Referring Vet
BVRS works closely with referring veterinarians to support continuity of care. After your pet’s procedure, we aim to provide clear updates and recommendations so your regular vet understands the treatment provided and any ongoing care needs.
Questions During Recovery
If you have concerns during your pet’s recovery, please contact our team for guidance. If your pet needs urgent or emergency care outside our opening hours, please contact your regular veterinarian or the nearest emergency veterinary hospital.
