Meet Cashew

At just 12 weeks old, Cashew, a playful Golden Retriever puppy, suffered a fracture to his left tibia (shin bone). For his owners, it was a frightening experience. Like many families, Cashew wasn’t just a pet—he was their much-loved fur baby.

Fortunately, although the bone was broken, the fracture had not extended into the growth plates at either end of the bone. These growth plates are responsible for normal bone development in growing puppies, and protecting them was an important part of Cashew’s treatment.

The Surgery

At BVRS, Dr. Fiona repaired the fracture using a bone plate and screws to carefully stabilise the bone while it healed.

The Outcome

Cashew recovered beautifully from surgery. His fracture healed well, his growth plates continued to function normally, and he regained full use of his leg. Today, he’s back to doing what every Golden Retriever puppy loves most—running, playing and enjoying life with his family.

Owner Testimonial:

“The team at BVRS are fantastic! Our poor little 12 week old pup Cashew had an accident that left him with multiple serious breaks in his back leg. We were very concerned that this was going to have long lasting effects given his age/growth, however after carefully walking us through the procedure (and the risks) and the eventual successful outcome, the BVRS team were able to mend our boy, with exceptional care and he has now fully recovered. Cashew received a lot of attention, was greeted with all the love, and enjoyed his celebrity status every visit. We are very thankful to the BVRS Team for the love and care they showed us all.”
